Marikina: ART WEDNESDAY

The city government of Marikina through the Marikina City Tourism, Culture and the Arts Office (MCTCAO) is inviting everyone to see the city’s heritage in a six-day exhibit entitled “Marikina: Sining at Kultura sa Bayang Marikit” at the Atrium of SM City Marikina.

Organized by the city government of Marikina, the exhibit displays artworks that illustrate the inheritance of Marikina over the years. The exhibit, which opened on August 4 can be viewed until August 9. Artists from Art Wednesday created the artworks on display.

“The artworks on display in Marikina: Sining at Kultura sa Bayang Marikit exhibits the city’s legacy exemplified by the artists from Art Wednesday” said Maria Theresa L. Atanacio-Curry, MCTCAO chief.

Art Wednesday is a group of artist founded in 2007 by distinguished local visual artists of Marikina such as Remedios “Remy” Boquiren, Cris Cruz, Ben Infante, Bing Siochi, and Lydia Velasco to name a few. The group consists of 25 artists from various fields of visual arts and has participated in numerous exhibit including Art In The Park & Art After Dark; Marikina: Pagbalik-tanaw sa Nakaraan during the 384th founding anniversary of Marikina; and their recent group exhibit entitled An Affair with Wednesday held at the Artes Orientes Gallery, 2nd Level of the Shops at Serendra, Bonifacio City last June 4-11. It is currently headed by president, Melissa “Lisa”; and includes vice-president, Andy Pernia; secretary, Marilyn Aquino; and treasurer, Marijean Garcia for its set of officers.

The event also features an artist forum featuring Jun Rocha on August 5 and Gani Fuentes on August 7.
